The Montreal Chapter

Text from Karl Morel, Director for Quebec West area

A new branch of the Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping will be inaugurated soon in Quebec. The Montreal Branch will be located in the Montreal downtown area in the Regiment of Maisonneuve armoury. A charter for the branch was already required under the corporative seal and it is in preparation for May 29 2007 which is the international Day of the U.N. peace-keeping force of the United Nations.

A dozen veterans of the area of Montreal are in the course of organization. On average, a member per week is recruited there. Until now, the members are soldiers and police officers in active service and retired, officers and warrant officers, regular and reservists, to whom one will allot the statute of regular or associated member. The missions of these members cover the period between the UNEFME and the MINUSTAH and all are policemen of UN or NATO holding the CPSM.

The Temporary Executive Committee prepared a color recruitment poster and a dynamic calendar of the activities and plans with the participation of the UNICEF, the UNA-Canada, the organizations of veterans and the Warrants and Sergeants Mess of the Regiment of Maisonneuve. If you wish to obtain more information, please email to archivaire@sympatico.ca or write to 4478, avenue Laval, No.6, Montreal QC H2W 2J8.
